Staying on a private island is a little different from booking a traditional self-catering cottage – and that’s exactly what makes it so special. On Round Island, we’re often asked similar questions by guests before their stay, so we’ve gathered the most common ones here to help you plan your escape with confidence.
How do we get to Round Island?
Your holiday begins before you even arrive. On your day of arrival, we’ll meet you at Lake Yard Marina in Poole, where you’ll be welcomed aboard our private launch, Arripay by Steve our Island Caretaker.
From here, it’s a relaxed 25 minute boat journey across Poole Harbour, offering your first taste of the water, wildlife and wide open skies that define island life.
Arripay is fully licensed and insured, and large enough to comfortably carry all our guests and their luggage, so there’s no need to worry about packing light or making multiple trips. For many, the boat crossing quickly becomes a highlight of the stay.

Can we bring our dog?
As much as we love dogs, we’re unable to accept our Guest's dogs on the island. Round Island is home to a wealth of wildlife, including peacocks and a variety of seabirds, and protecting this delicate environment is extremely important to us. We appreciate our guests’ understanding.
Do you offer watersports on the island?
We don’t offer organised watersports or equipment hire. Due to our remote location, insurance considerations, and the practicalities of maintaining equipment with a very small team, it isn’t something we’re able to provide.
However, guests are very welcome to bring their own watersports equipment. Paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming and exploring the shoreline can all be enjoyed directly from our beaches and pier, allowing you to enjoy the water entirely on your own terms.

Is there Wi-Fi on the island?
One of the great pleasures of Round Island is the chance to truly switch off. There is no Wi-Fi on the island, and for many guests this quickly becomes part of the magic – uninterrupted conversations, slower mornings, and evenings spent watching the light change over the harbour.
That said, 5G mobile coverage is strong, so you can still stay connected if needed, check messages, or hotspot for essential use.
What should we bring with us?
We provide all standard bed linen, so your beds will be made up and ready for your arrival. We simply ask guests to bring their own towels.
Beyond that, we recommend packing thoughtfully, remembering that island life encourages a slower, simpler pace – comfortable clothing, layers for cooler evenings, and anything special you’d like for beach days or barbecues.
Are there any extra costs we should know about?
No – and this often comes as a welcome surprise. There are no additional charges for boat transport to and from the island during your stay, and no hidden extras once you arrive. Essentials such as charcoal for barbecues are included, allowing you to relax and enjoy your time without worrying about extra costs.
A different kind of self-catering holiday
A stay on Round Island is about stepping away from the noise of everyday life and reconnecting with nature, space and stillness. From the moment you step aboard Arripay to your final crossing back to the mainland, everything is designed to feel unhurried, thoughtful and genuinely memorable.
If you have any questions not covered here, we’re always happy to help – and we look forward to welcoming you to island life.
